We're lucky to live in Cobham, which falls in the borough of Elmbridge. It’s known as a wealthy enclave – home to footballers, celebrities, and City workers. In some parts of Elmbridge, however, 25% of children live in poverty. The gulf between rich and poor is stark and set to widen dramatically as a result of lockdown measures and their impact on people’s livelihoods - particularly those of women and children. 

We have recently volunteered with our local charity, Oasis, which supports vulnerable children and women in the Elmbridge area. By providing counselling, shelter, food and much more, Oasis aims to help those living below the breadline and importantly, keep children out of the social care system and with their own families. 

Every Christmas, Oasis gifts a food hamper to each family they support so they can enjoy a Christmas meal. Each hamper costs approximately £75 and comprises a turkey and all the trimmings, festive desserts as well as a small gift for the mums.

No matter how small, every donation means a great deal to families struggling to make ends meet, and will make Christmas Day that little more special.
