Christmas Hike 2022 · 26 November 2022

Provide a bespoke support service to families and individuals who have been impacted by cancer

Story

We're raising funds to support The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust (Team Solan) again this Christmas.  Team Solan are supporting hundreds of local families affected by Cancer.  That support can take many forms from counselling to therapies, from financial support to the use of a wig bank and many other services along the way. In addition to all of those services, Team Solan goes the extra mile to help families have the best Christmas possible, often in difficult circumstances.

As a group of friends, we have decided to set ourselves a difficult challenge to hopefully make it worthy of your donations.  We all appreciate that times are incredibly hard so we've hopefully found a challenge worthy of your hard earned cash!!!!

Every donation really does make a difference.  Whether it's the cost of a cuppa or a G&T, maybe a donation in lieu of Christmas Cards, it is very much appreciated by us all.

Anyway, more about the challenge, we have (stupidly?) agreed to do a non-stop 50 mile hike from the heart of Weardale down to Roker.  We will be leaving Rookhope in Weardale at around 2:30pm on Saturday 26 Nov.  We'll hopefully be arriving into Roker at 10am(ish) on Sunday 27 Nov.  This hike should take us around 20/21 hours, 15/16 of which will be in darkness in the winter months. The route will take us from Rookhope across the moors to Stanhope before joining the Waskerley Way to Consett.  From there we will drop into the Lanchester Valley all the way to Langley Park.  We will then pick up the road to Plawsworth via Witton Gilbert, Sacriston and Nettlesworth.  We then hit the A167 to Chester le Street and Birtley before joining the Coast to Coast route and following it all the way down to Roker.

All hikers comfortably fall into the "middle aged" bracket so this is undoubtedly a gruelling challenge.  On that basis we hope you can support us and in turn support the wonderful people of the North East.

Thank you.
