Story
I work as a housing advisor at the Youth Advice Centre (YAC) in Brighton. We advise young people who are either already homeless, or threatened with homelessness, and help them to work out how to get safely housed.
Homelessness in the UK is on the rise, with a 169% increase in people rough-sleeping since 2010. I'm sure that you've all noticed more and more people sleeping in shop doorways, and in tents in our parks, over the last few years.
The streets are a scary, isolating place for young people, who are very vulnerable when rough-sleeping.
We aim to help keep young people safe and off the streets where at all possible.
We will use the money that you donate through the Young People's Emergency Fund to:
- Pay for a homeless young person to stay for the night in a Backpacker's hostel, when they have no other options. This could be the difference between them sleeping outside on the streets, or having a safe place to stay.
- Work with them to help find longer-term safe accommodation, and link them into further support with finding a job or training.
- Provide insecurely housed young people with food parcels so they can have a decent meal.
We need your donations to continue to do this!
