Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Hello everyone,

As you might already know, in exactly 1 month from now, I will be surrounded by 2299 other ultra trailers in Chamonix on the start line of the Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc.

The UTMB is a race for crazy people like me who like running in the mountains for hours and hours and hours….. non-stop!

Here are a few details about this race:

  • The race covers three countries, starts and finishes in Chamonix (France), and goes all around the Mont-Blanc in Italy and Switzerland.
  • The trail is 170km long (104.5 miles)
  • 10,000 meters of cumulative ascent (see profile below)
  •  2,300 lucky runners who have earned enough points by completing Ultra races are selected with a draw from 8000 people
  • Runners from 84 countries
  • 46 hours 30 min to complete the race
  • Start on the 28th August at 18.00 French time

I’m not doing this only because I’m addicted to overpassing my physical and mental limits but also to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care association which is close to my heart. It provides care and support to people with terminal illness and their families by helping them financially when possible to get home treatment. The objective is to raise more than £864 achieved 2 years ago when running my first Ultra(https://www.justgiving.com/YanGascon)

I also created a small blog that I will update more and more in the days leading up to the race so that you can follow this adventure by checking out some photos and comments (http://my-ultra-adventure.tumblr.com/)

Do not hesitate to pass this page your friends to support Marie Curie. Even the smallest donations can make a big difference for the people who are not as lucky as us to be in good health.
