Back in 2014 and 2015 myself and a group of others got the opportunity to go to Romania to volunteer with the Charity Children in Distress. Here we spent the majority of the time just being with the children they care for, by playing games with them as well as doing things so simple as holding their hand which means the world to them showing them that we care about them. I enjoyed these trips so much and loved seeing the impact this charity has on these children/infants with the smiles it puts on their faces, that I then decided to introduce the Charity to my University back in 2020 and decided to set up a volunteering trip. As the now project leader for this trip I am excited to be able to organise this along with the Charity and my University and hopefully build connections for the trip to run once a year.

Here is a bit about what it is all about...

Action Romania is a new project this year run with LSU Action at Loughborough Students Union, which involves travelling to Romania to volunteer with the charity Children in Distress. On this trip myself and the other volunteers will visit the various children's hospices and care centres which are run by the charity, who provide love and care for children and infants who suffer from illness, are terminally ill and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Whether this is playing games with them, taking them on trips to the beach or even just holding their hand. This trip is all about being with the children and putting a smile on their faces.

What are the donations going towards?

The money being raised will be going towards myself being able to go on this trip to go and spend time with these children as well as help out at the various centres including working on some community projects to help get the centres to be in the best condition possible for these children. As well as this, the majority of the money being raised will also be going towards the Charity itself as a donation. If I go above my target, I will also then donate any remaining funds extra to them.
