Story
The biggest humanitarian crisis of our generation is happening now, in Syria. A war that has continued for six years has resulted in approximately five hundred thousand lives lost, almost five million refugees, and left a country rich in history and culture in ruins.
Having been born in Syria but raised in the UK gives me a unique insight into the crisis that this country currently faces. Seeing the places I used to visit, eat at, walk by, reduced to rubble, makes me realise how lucky I am to have moved away from Syria before this war has destroyed the country and how lucky I was to have experienced it during a care free time. It also makes me realise that others have not been so lucky. Currently, those remaining in the the midst of this civil war rely on the goodwill of others, of us, to survive.
We hear devastating news stories daily on TV but none of us can truly imagine what its like to really live there. The daily life that we take for granted here is a world away from the routine sound of bombs and gunshots. Schools, homes and hospitals bombed (including the very one I was born in!), all without coming closer to a peaceful solution.
At a time when the world needs to come together, we walk together in unity.
Please dig deep and donate to this worthy cause (or come and join us on the day!).
