Bekki's Year of Half Marathons

Bekki's Year of Half Marathons · 27 December 2017
In 2017 I was dared to run the Cheltenham Half Marathon for the Trust, after cheering on my brother-in-law and his team in 2016. It looked an amazing event but I knew I'd have to give up the pies and prosecco if I was going to take part (am still working on the prosecco). But I trained and completed the Cheltenham Half 2017 and, along the way and quite unexpectedly, rediscovered my love of running.
This new challenge of running 12 Half Marathons in 2018 will really push me - these legs are getting old! I need to stay fit and train hard, and limit the chocolate intake. I'm going to aim for a Half a month but, should I get injured (I promise to do my stretches and warm-downs), I'll may have to juggle the schedule a bit. I'll post all race plans on this page.
I'll be taking part in organised Half Marathon events in the Midlands, as far as possible. If a race is full, I'll run a Half Marathon distance and record it on an app, and will post it for you all to see. But I like the medals and free swag of organised events, so I've already booked myself onto a few!
Bottom line - I'm 41, I'm getting on a bit, I haven't done this much sport since school (watching the rugby with a beer doesn't count), and this challenge is going to be a tough one. I've got to train my ass off and ignore the inner voice screaming "what are you doing?! This hurts!" But I can't think of a better reason to do this than raising funds for The Campbell Burns Metabolic Trust. This little charity supports countless children living with metabolic conditions, helping them meet day-to-day costs. Of course I'm biased (being Campbell's Mummy and the charity Chairman) but we do great work and I'm so proud of my involvement.
So, if you don't mind and are able, please consider donating to my Year of Half Marathons. It's so worth it. And I promise to amuse you with oh-so-funny training tales and photos of my blisters. Thank you.
