Walking up Snowdon · 29 September 2022

upReach's main activity is delivering an intensive programme of personalised career support, helping students from less-advantaged backgrounds to broaden their horizons and develop the skills, networks and experiences needed for career success. We will support over 3,000 students this academic year.

Story

Last week the YFM team walked up Snowdon - there were no casualties and there was even a lot of bravado afterwards about doing the national three peaks next year....

As well as spending some time together outside of the office we also wanted to put the trip to good use by raising some money for charity.  We have chosen UpReach - https://upreach.org.uk/about - who work with socioeconomically disadvantaged students to give them the best chance of reaching their potential, they do this by offering coaching, career guidance and access to networks they would not normally have.  UpReach helped 3,000 students last year and it is fully funded by donations.

UpReach share the following statement which says it all to us:

A student from a disadvantaged background who gains a first class degree from a top university is less likely to secure an elite job than a more privileged student with a 2.2.

YFM are sponsoring each of the team who completed it £500 and if you would like to add to this amount then Upreach and the many students they help would be very grateful.

Thanks

Jamie, Zach, Helen, David and Ben.
