YHEC 10 film Disney+ marathon · 30 April 2021

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Alice, Sara and Chris at YHEC (York Health Economics Consortium) are supporting Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) by taking on a 10-film movie marathon. One of our colleagues received invaluable care from TCT on a number of fronts during his diagnosis - he’s now undergoing further treatment so we thought it a timely moment to show him our support by seeing what Disney+ has to throw at us!

TCT staff and resources were brilliant and very supportive during his diagnosis. We are all wanting to help TCT reach more young people (aged 13-24) diagnosed with cancer and to help make their journeys more bearable.

Matched funding

As a company, YHEC has promised to match our fundraising efforts so for every £1 raised by this event, the company will give a further £1!

The Challenge

What does the challenge involve? We’re going to watch 10 films, all on Disney+ using the GroupWatch function so we can do it together, as well as keeping in touch on Zoom - so you can join us in the Zoom chat live during the marathon, if you like! (The link will be shared later).

When will it happen? From 7am on Friday 30th April, until well into the early hours of Saturday 1at May.

Which films will we watch? You can vote for the films we watch from a selection - see the list at the bottom of this page or on the poll.

(you'll need to copy and paste this URL into your web browser - apologies!)

For each £1 that you donate you get 1 vote. So for £5 you get 5 votes, for £10 you get 10 votes and so on. You don’t HAVE to vote, you can just donate if you like. You can spread your votes about if you want.

At the end of voting, we will watch the top 10 films! The only stipulation is that at least 3 of the slots are taken by kid-friendly films (to enable Chris and Sara’s kids to join for some of it), so at least the top 3 kid-friendly films will make the cut.

We will also make 1 of the 10 slots a space for a film NOT on the list (but it still must be on Disney+) so get your votes in for that '10th slot' film! Anything on Disney+ goes, e.g. Pixar, classic Disney, Marvel
