I am reaching out to you to help me raise £5,000 for research into a cure for MND. Proceeds will go to My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. It will support people affected by MND. It’s a scary sum, but not as frightening as doing nothing.

I am planning to do this by staging a rock gig at which I will play a full set of U2 songs with my band, U2MND on October 23, 2022 - the month after my 50th Birthday.

We will celebrate music, singing, and human kindness, but with a serious focus on raising money to change other people’s lives.

Why? Because a few years back I began hearing stories about rugby players who had been affected by the disease. Having worked in professional rugby for 4 years, I felt some affinity to these men and wanted to learn more.

In particular, reading Scottish rugby international Doddie Weir’s book helped me understand more about living with the disease. It also highlighted that this wasn’t just about rugby players - there were tens of thousands of people around the globe, struggling to plan and live their lives after the diagnosis of a disease, for which the research is underfunded.

I want to give back to the world. I want to help give them and their families hope. Because hope and love are what sustain people in times of crisis.

Why a U2 tribute band and a gig for my 50th Birthday, you ask? Well, U2 have influenced my life in such a positive way, always providing me with hope and determination with their songs, that I wanted share that amazing energy they gave me, with other people.

So, if you would like to be a part our journey, please feel welcome to get involved or to donate. Every penny means change. Every pound means progress. Towards a cure and towards supporting those families better. Providing them with hope and a better future.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything you can do to help us onwards!
