I'm running the Helsinki Half Marathon on Saturday 13th May and then the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 21st May to raise money for the 999 Club in Deptford.

They support people who sleep rough, as well as those who are vulnerably housed; sofa surfing or living in temporary accommodation. Clients can come to the Gateway to shower, do laundry and access a range of support services from employability to housing to health and wellbeing services.

More than 8,000 people sleep rough on the streets of London each year. Data from the Combined Homelessness and Information Network suggests the number of people either new to rough sleeping or living on the streets in London rose 24% between June and September in 2022 compared to the same period the previous year. 

I've been volunteering in the Gateway for several months, working on reception and serving breakfast to clients. It's been amazing to give back to my local community and see the impact that the 999 Club make on people's lives.
