My accidental half marathon

Sitting in the office, minding my own business, my lovely colleague Joanne bounced in, I was pleasantly surprised to see her bounce as at the weekend she had completed the London Marathon for Barts, in memory of her lovely Mum who had received such wonderful treatment under their care.

Joanne was upbeat, enjoyed her experience, and after telling the office all about it, turned to me and said - Yvonne I have something foryou. In my head I was excited, both Joanne and myself share a great love of coffee and chocolate so I thought it must be about something yummy to eat or drink, but I was very, very wrong, it was infact the opportunity to take part in the Hackney Half Marathon, on Sunday 21^stMay.

My first response was to laugh hysterically, Sunday 21^stMay not much time, in my head I shouted NO, but my mouth for some strange reason opened and said YES – hence me running an accidental half marathon.

2023 is Barts Health Trust’s 900^th anniversary.  To recognise this impressive milestone, they are launching one of their most important appeals to raise funds to build a newdedicated Breast Cancer Centre at Bartholomew Hospital.

The new centre will bring together surgical services acrossthe five Barts Health Hospitals under one roof. Surgery is an important part of treatment and over 80% of people withbreast cancer will need surgery as part of their treatment.  This state-of-the-art facility will bringsurgery and post-surgery care in one place therefore improving every stage of treatment provided.

It is an honour to be running on behalf of Barts hospital, I am aiming to gain blisters, sore legs and raise £850 for this much needed appeal.
