The Brittle Bone Society was founded here in Dundee in 1968 and next year it will celebrate 50 glorious years.  Brittle Bones (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) effects people in many different ways, and the  50 Golden Wheels Walks that  I and hopefully some of my friends and family will help and support me to complete.  The walks that  I have chosen are suitable for wheelchair use.  As many of you know I am confined to a power wheelchair and I get great enjoyment walking or in my case wheeling through out Dundee and through out many parts of Britain .   I Plan to do 25 wheels between now and September and the others from March 18 to September 18 making a grand total of 50  The first 25 are listed below the others will be following in 2018.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Brittle Bones effects both children and adults to varying degrees but we all get enormous help from the Brittle Bone Society.

The routes are hopefully weather and health permitting

9 30th June Walk From Kingscross Station to Hotel in Russell Square. Slept in and missed the train that I was meant to get on, never the less managed to hop on the next one... Walk complete from the hotel on Princess Street along to Waverley Station... Got on the train, arrived at Kingscross and walked to the President Hotel in glorious sunshine.

10 Walk from Hotel to BBS Solicitor Office 1st July  Well what a day this has been, completed the walk to our host office for the Brittle Bone Society Trustee Meeting  Jones Day Tudor Street, Walked from The President Hotel, past Holborn, Past Fleet Street and to the office ( see picture) with fellow Trustees, Robert Gordon.(Treasurer)  Elaine Healey (Chair) Angela Stewart (Co- Opted Member) and Dr Nick Bishop -(Medical Advisory Panel Member) . Then Angela Karen (Karen is Angela's Friend) decided to walk to Blackfriars Bridge, Along the South Bank to well past the Savoy Hotel - we then went our different ways - Angela  back to the rail station and I walked back to the hotel from there.  See photographs Looking forward to seeing the Coopers tomorrow.  (Photographs are included.)

11 South Bank From the Sea Life Centre - The Coopers from Basildon  2nd July  The Route today was chosen by the Coopers who had traveled all the way from Basildon on the train, we walked the whole of the South Bank, stopping on route for lunch at a restaurant that gave children their meal free providing that the adults had a main course, the kids then played in the sand, had Ice cream, do nuts and puffed sugar walking along whilst enjoying the entertainment... Time was soon upon us to start making our way home ... The Coopers took the boat back to the station and I walked home passed several well known theaters on the Strand before coming back to the hotel via the British Museum.   Thank you all for coming and the sun shone,  Hugs to Demi, Millie and Leo for all the smiles xx

12 Walk From Hotel - Covent Gardens /Trafalgar Square.  WIth Sue Lingard 3rd July Well what an epic and memorable walk this was, We left the hotel at 10.30 am and at Covant Garden some kind soul stole my jacket of the back of my chair (It was tied on) and nobody saw anything, we then after the shock walked to Trafalgar Square, Admiralty Arch, along the Mall, to horse Guards Parade, to the back of the houses of Parliament, along the length of St. James Park, along to Buckingham Palace, where I shook hands with HRH at Buckingham Palace gates (only jesting) then walked the length of Hyde Park and on to Oxford Street and looking at the battery strength on my chair it was going really fast so we hopped on the 68 bus I Think and headed back to Holborn and had a sandwich at the hotel cafe.  Thank you Sue for your help and encouragement.  Photographs to follow.  Love and thanks for your effort this day xx Ps we arrived back at 3.30 just one word Tired... xxx

13 Walk from Hotel back to Kingscross Railway Station 4th July . With Suzanne Smith -  Well what a catch up that was, mid morning coffee, lunch at Leon (Great selection of food) at Kings Cross Station and finally departing at platform 93/4 with the help of J.K Rowling  actually left at platform 9 on the train going back to Aberdeen at 2 p.m. journey went smoothly apart from the loo breaking down just after Newcastle.

14 Arbroath shore line and part of the Cliffs 8th July  Well what a glorious day that the Lord has made... Walk 14 completed with the love of Anne Stott and Jacob and Eve, yes we made up the Arbroath Cliffs, noticing all the glories of nature, had our picnics sitting looking out to sea.  The sun shone on the water and the glory of the Lord shone all around.  So thank you for friendship, thank you for the love of my God Children and thank you Lord for this day.. We then drove in the hope of getting to the fun fair ( not a hope in scooby) there was a football match on , we then drove to Broughty Ferry the Gala week had started and someone had parked in our usual spot so we then drove to the Glass Pavilion for a much earned snack and a few glasses of juice.  It was wonderful.. Oh yes and thank you to Anne Stott for the ice cream it was so good!  Mind you the day was AWESOME. To finish it off who should bump into us at the Glass Pavilion but Granny Anne and Grandpa Nobby and Renton who was soaking....

15  Tay Bridge Cancelled  15th July WALK CHANGED TO THE FOLLOWING ROUTE :

The Rain is on but i am still wheeling along with my friends {and bright yellow walking gear} - route slightly changed walking/wheeling from Car Park nearest Tay Bridge on Fife Side at 11.35 am and walking along the cycle path to the light houses then taking the high cycle path back to the van.

Walk 15/25 now completed: the weather really opened up as you can see by the photograph, First walk with rain: Met Wilma Lawrie and her friends along with Patricia, Coreen and Jhon from the BBS. Office. My friends Anne and Norman did the Fife Coastal path towards the Lighthouses at Tayport leaving from the Fife car park of The Tay Bridge.  We all felt like drookit rats by the 4 miles were completed - The dogs Renton (Guide Dog Puppy in Training and Ralph Kyle, Jacob and Eve's dog) were soaked too but had a great time walking and running along the wooded areas.  Thank you all xx

16 Law Hill 22nd July

Walk 16/25 complete- what a miserable cold dark and overcast day with spots of rain.  The walk to the Law Hill - means "Law" is Hill.  The walk up is up through an ancient volcano and has a speed limit of 10 mph unfortunately I will never be able to go at that speed. Passing through the Law Woodland trail... cant get to it because of an unfriendly steep step so just kept on plugging up the Law via the road... Far safer.  I wish Cameron Allen and Family and Wilma Lawrie every success as they do their challenge walks today as well.  Just remember to wrap up warm you will need thermals on underneath just to stay warm.  Photos to follow.

August

17 Tents Muir Forest 3rd August With Kyle Jacob Eve, Anne Well we were truly lucky, the weather stayed clear until we walked around the forest which was very muddy, the children were in their wellies and Jacob was going forth Now Aunty Yvonne if the water comes over my feet you are not venturing over and into the water puddles... Needless to say Renton and Ralph enjoyed shaking themselves over everyone and going like bats out of you know what.  A great day was had by all x

18 Blinking Eye  Newcastle   10 August Walking from the SAGE Newcastle/Gateshead across Millenium Bridge, to the home of the Brittle Bone Society Conference 2017 for the weekend.  With Angela and Friends also Wilma Lawrie.. What a day that turned out to be, we did it - yes we did it  not only was I accompanied the above mentioned but also a team of wonderful girls from These Girls Can Run - thanks to Jane Core for organizing it. - Here I must wish those wonderful girls all the very best for the Great North Run you will crack your records and help the charities...  We did 6 miles.

Walk 18a Was again down to the Blinking Bridge this time with Lexi and Louise Mills, Karen, Angela and Lizzie all doing the same route.. Lizzie was a bit worried about her battery level as her chair was playing up, tried stopping off for an ice cream /drink but the chalet was closed so we headed back to the hotel for a well earned reward.. A great time was had by all another 6 miles added to the total.

19 Newcastle Town Center over past the RVI to the Gardens another 6 miles.  We were joined by Lexi, her Mum Louise, her big sister also Karen, Gareth Angela - A great way to stop remembering about a certain hospital appointment for Lexi on Monday never the less that lass despite her size has a determination and the heart of a lion to take any treatment thrown at her... Needless to say yes we had to stop off for ice cream and something stronger for the adults if they wanted it.  Videos and photos to follow...  Next walk is the Dundee Kilt Walk on the 20th of August..
