Story

I plan to cycle 100km (over a 48 hour period) to raise money for this life-changing programme – which is so very close to my heart. This challenge is particularly difficult for me given that over the past few years I have had to battle my own serious health problems, which at my most unwell left me unable to even walk down the road, let alone ride a bike! It has been a slow process of recovery, in which exercise has played a vital role. And during this period I often took inspiration from the people who I had worked with on our Breathe Magic programme. They taught me that determination, resilience, a lot of hard work and an abundance of patience, often pays off in the end. So I have taken that approach in to my training for this challenge, which in reality, I have been building up my strength for, over the past 18-months.

As a bonus challenge I have also set myself the task of raising 50% of the overall target for Breathe Magic – a whopping £5k(!) - Eeek! So if you can help me on this journey, I would be super grateful.

2020 marks a very special year for our Breathe Magic programme – this life-changing programme has now been running for 10 years(!) and it was the development of this programme – with its equal mix of arts, health and science – that inspired me to set-up Breathe Arts Health Research in 2012.

What Is Breathe Magic?

Breathe Magic uses the combination of science and magic to help people with a range of health conditions live independent and fulfilling lives. Our flagship Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy programme is a clinically effective, fun and engaging approach to therapy. Designed to help young people with hemiplegia, a weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body caused by an injury to the brain, develop hand and arm function, cognitive abilities, self-confidence and independence.

We now need to raise money to help secure the future 10-years of Breathe Magic and I would be honoured if you would donate and support me.

Save The Date

We will be holding a very special (online) Breathe Magic 10 Year Birthday Bash on the 10th November at 7pm, hosted by our fabulous Patrons, Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton! From the Kiln Theatre in London, direct to your living room, a ‘one night only’ evening of magic, fun and memories as we celebrate 10 years of Breathe Magic.

You’ll see breath-taking performances from our world class, Magic Circle Magicians and hear from some of the brilliant young people (ten years on!) who have been on their own journey through the Breathe Magic Programme.
