EVERY 90 SECONDS someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury (ABI). There are many possible causes, such as a fall, a road traffic accident, an assault, a tumour or a stroke. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, we're here to help

Story

On 3rd August I will be taking part in Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, walking 24,5 miles to raise money for Headway - The Brain Injury Assosiation.

Headway's mission is to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers.

I have choosen to raise money for Headway, a cause that is very close to myself and my family after my dad unfortunately passed away in 2009 after suffering a brain injury.

Brain injury is the biggest cause of death and disability in 16-29 year olds in the UK and it is this that provides the incentive for Headway’s work.

Headway aim:

To assist people with brain injuries to return to community living, including access to appropriate accommodation, social outlets, and productive activity.

To increase awareness of brain injury and its consequences.

To initiate activities and campaigns which will reduce the incidence of brain injury.

To provide information and support for people with brain injuries, their relatives and carers and concerned professional people.

To promote improved approaches to brain injury screening, acute care, assessment, rehabilitation and social re-integration.

To support and help to establish Headway groups throughout the UK in furtherance of the charity's mission statement.
