Walk 50 miles in February 2025, to support people living with epilepsy.

Story

A couple of years ago, I woke up to my partner shouting out in his sleep. He remembered nothing, and when he woke up it was like nothing happened. This was the beginning of our new nightmare.

We were referred to a neurologist, tests were done but nothing was found. It didn’t happen often but when it did, we were lost on what to do. We tried to balance this new fear while living our life. He ran a half marathon, stayed active at bootcamp and the gym, worked hard and stayed healthy. We planned our wedding and got married in July 2025. On a normal week at the end of November, we did our shopping, planned to go pick up our Christmas tree, he kissed me goodbye and left for the nightshift. The next day, his alarm went off and kept going. When I went to switch it off, I found him. And just like that, my 38 year old husband, who had the kindest heart was gone.

I’m struggling to understand why this happened. With help from our GP, I learnt about SUDEP. And when an ad came up for this challenge, it reminded me of Chris. When his father died of MND at the beginning of COVID, he did a similar challenge to run for a month for charity. So it seems appropriate that I follow in what he loved doing.

So I am joining hundreds of people challenging themselves to complete 50 Miles in February to help ensure nobody has to face living with epilepsy alone, by raising funds and awareness for Epilepsy Action.
