100 Miles. One Month. One Very Personal Reason. 🎀

This October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m taking on a challenge that means more to me than I can really put into words — I’ll be walking 100 miles in 31 days to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.

This isn’t something I ever imagined I would be doing.

I’ve been through stage 3 breast cancer, chemotherapy and a mastectomy, and I’m now about to start radiotherapy. Cancer and the treatment that comes with it have changed my body, my strength and my everyday life.

Before all of this, I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about walking 100 miles. Now, it feels like a huge challenge.

I’ve found myself becoming much slower and losing a lot of the strength I once had. There have been times when my body simply hasn’t felt like my own. So I’ve decided to turn those 100 miles into something positive.

This walk is about rebuilding.

Rebuilding my strength. Rebuilding my confidence. Rebuilding the belief that my body can still do amazing things after everything it has been through.

Every mile will be a little reminder that I’m moving forward.

And while I’m doing something personal for myself, I also want every step to help support the charity that is working to make a difference for so many other people facing breast cancer.

Because I know firsthand that a breast cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the person who receives it. It affects families, partners, friends and everyone who loves them.

During October alone, breast cancer will take almost 1,000 lives in the UK. Behind every one of those numbers is a person — a mum, a daughter, a sister, a friend. Someone loved. Someone missed.

Breast Cancer Now has a bold vision: that by 2050, everyone affected by breast cancer will live and live well. The money raised helps fund life-saving research and life-changing support to help make that vision a reality.

So, this October, I’ll be putting one foot in front of the other and going the distance.

And 100 miles for me — to find my strength again. 💗
