The Law Society of Zimbabwe appeal aims to raise £100,000 to help the Law Society of Zimbabwe maintain its services for lawyers and society, following the collapse of the justice system in Zimbabwe.
Andrew Holroyd, Law Society president, says the Law Society of Zimbabwe is a vital voice in defence of the rule of law, constitutionalism, the independence of the judiciary and human rights.
How will the money raised be used?
The appeal fund will be used to:
• establish and equip five regional offices, providing facilities for members to consult law books, use the internet and get support for pro bono cases. It will cost £35,000.
• purchase a four wheel drive vehicle to help staff reach members in the face of the communications infrastructure breakdown. It will cost £25,000.
• support training. It will cost £30,000 to provide a training workshop for twenty people.
• establish a travel fund to cover costs for members to attend hearings and to raise awareness about the situation in Zimbabwe. It will cost £20,000 to establish a travel fund for a year
