Story

Wowaweewa

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page and supporting me.

I'm part of the team raising money for Vodafone Foundation's Your Planet campaign, to help protect the world we live, love and breathe.

With the health of our planet reaching crisis point, I'm taking a stand to support charities that are tackling biodiversity loss and plastic pollution through wildlife and marine conservation technology respectively.

All donations support the work of the Tusk Trust - to help protect Africa's endangered wildlife - and The Ocean Clean-Up - to help remove 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution.

So what am I doing to earn your generous sponsorship?

Completing (hopefully) The Artic Challenge.

The Arctic Challenge is an inspiring wilderness endurance test held over a long weekend. It incorporates a 40km dog sled time trial, a 20km Nordic Ski race, (look this up if you haven't heard of it lolll)  a Quinze snow shelter build, and woodland fire lighting, all set against the backdrop of the arctic winter with hopefully a sighting of the dancing ‘Northern Lights’.

In the heart of Arctic Lapland, a land of vast wilderness, frozen lakes and rivers, snow dusted tundra and endless Boreal forest, I'll be pushing myself to the limits (crying) to complete the Artic Challenge.

I'll be just north of Kiruna (67°51’N 20°13’E) and 150 kms inside the Arctic Circle. Good place to top up my tan ;)

The Arctic is a harsh environment and temperatures can drop to
as low as -35 or more! In the event of a light breeze it is likely to
feel even colder. The sun doesn’t rise above the horizon from
late November to mid January and we will have approximately 5
to 6 hours of twilight per day, so much of the daily events will be
undertaken in near darkness. Wish me luck!
