Story

Last year we set ourselves a challenge to climb Kilimanjaro’ Africa’s largest and the world’s highest free standing mountain. This will be a personal achievement as the climb will be physically challenging, facing extreme and varied weather conditions.

We are funding this trip ourselves and have chosen to raise money for FOCUS at Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals.  The money raised will help make a direct impact for local cancer patients and their families. I volunteer as a therapist for FOCUS at Cheltenham Oncology Hospital and know that the fundraising and support we do really helps with patients, improving their facilities and surroundings. Andy sadly lost his aunt last December who was terminally ill and diagnosed with cancer in April, she had some of her treatment at Cheltenham oncology, and was helped in everyway they could.

This is going to be a tough trek for both of us due to the high altitude. When we ascend above 2000metres our bodies must acclimatise to the decreasing amounts of oxygen, failure to do this may result in Acute Mountain Sickness, so we've been doing plenty of walking to help us have a better experience and a more successful summit. We've chosen the Machame route which is a 7 day climb camping on the mountain, and are doing it with a group which will help with the morale and team spirit. This will be an amazing sense of achievement for everyone and an exciting adventure.

We will be grateful if you will support us on this mission and help reach our target of £500.  By supporting FOCUS today you can help to invest in projects which will benefit local patients fighting cancer. You can support through a donation', all we can do is help shine a light so please support our Kilimanjaro challenge and give what you can before we 'change our minds'. By donating to our page, you will be helping others who are going through cancer treatment as FOCUS aims to create a comfortable and positive environment for all patients.
