Story
On Sunday 13th Oct I am running the London Royal Parks Half Marathon (yes half, I am too old for a full). I am collecting donations on behalf of Ferriers Barn, because.........
In July 2018 my truly special friend Nina called me with heart-breaking news. Her Husband Stuart had been involved in a hit & run accident whilst on holiday in Majorca. I cannot begin to describe the difficulties both Nina & Stuart have faced in the last 15 months. There have been multiple setbacks, several major head surgeries & obviously lots of tears. Throughout this time of despair, Nina's love & support for Stuart has never wavered, she is inspiring & brilliant.
Support networks for the victims of head injuries are few & far between, when I told Stu of my plan to complete a half marathon for a charity of his choice he was very decisive in choosing Ferriers Barn, they have been a constant help in his life since his return to the UK. The barn is an arts & crafts centre dedicated to people with disabilities, https://www.ferriersbarn.com/. Stuart visits one full day per week. The barn relies on charitable donations.
Life will never be as it was for Stuart, he needs 24 hour care 365 days a year. Despite the set backs he is doing much better since the final op to insert a titanium plate into his head to act as a kind of skull. He has regained his wicked sense of humor & can make beans on toast, even if it does take aggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss. I will ask him for some words of wisdom to post on here in due course.
If you can spare a couple of pounds to sponsor me & support this excellent charity I would be most grateful. ;0))
