Story

Hi all,

The vast majority of people reading this may have no idea who ASCA are or what they do, and this is why I'd like to not only raise funds, but also raise awareness of something that means a lot to me.

Like many people, I lived a happy childhood in a loving family, and felt safe and cared for - as every child has a right to. I have since learned that some children (many more than I thought) were not given this right. Some children in fact, have their childhoods taken from them by somebody they trust/look up to/love - the very people that should be keeping a child safe. I'm sure everybody agrees that child abuse is a terrible crime, whether it be physical, emotional or sexual. What is not often seen however, is how it can affect a person's ability to grow, develop and live as an adult, when they were never permitted to be a child.

As I know some who were not able to grow up as I did, I wanted to let them and others out there know that there are people who are willing to help, and that they are not alone. This is true for anybody experiencing mental health conditions.

I have decided to try and raise awareness and funds for Adults Surviving Child Abuse by completing the 1.9km/90km/21.1km Mornington Triathlon on November 30th 2014. It will take some hard work from me to be able to train and complete it, but it's not much compared to what some people have to work through. I will not be the fittest or fastest out there, but that is not what its about. For me, it is about the hard work and  tackling the barriers that come up along the way.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, and please tell me to go and train every time you see me!
