Story

Hello everyone, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Finley, Shaun and I are holding a sponsored Toddle (toddler walk) to raise money for Solving Kids Cancer Charity in support of Finley's friend Evie.

When I was at University I met Imogen (super mum), she was pregnant with twins and I was pregnant with Finley, the three babies were due one week apart and Imogen was a massive source of support to me in what was a very stressful time! Imogen and Oli had their beautiful girls Evie and Ella in May 2016, 11 weeks premature, weighting a tiny 2lbs each, for reference Finley was 7lbs 12oz. Needless to say the girls had a rocky, touch and go start at life but they are little fighters and they grew stronger and bigger every day.

Less than two weeks after Evie's first birthday, during a routine check up, it was found that Evie had Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer. Neuroblastoma is a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system, with tumours more often than not occurring in the adrenal glands or abdomen.

Evie's treatment so far has involved, 2 sets of low/medium intensity chemotherapy, which she received over 3 days every 3 weeks as an outpatient. Following scans it was discovered this hadn't had a great enough effect on the tumours so it was decided Evie would be started on High Intensity Chemotherapy which she has had 3 sets of 5 days of as an inpatient in hospital.

High intensity Chemotherapy made Evie incredibly poorly, there were drugs to combat the horrific side effects and infections in between and drugs to then combat the side effects of those drugs which then have side effects. Evie, like all, can only have a certain amount of high intensity Chemotherapy as the potential side effects of too much can be worse than the cancer itself.

Whilst on treatment Evie has experienced, an NG tube due to stopping eating and not tolerating medicine, stomach bleeding due to steroids, hair loss, 3 infections, a Hickman line fitted and changed using surgery twice, horrendous sickness, A blood transfusion, being kept in isolation for days and much more.

100 children a year get diagnosed with Neuroblastoma and they do not deserve to have to endure the side effects of these life saving treatments. Solving Kid's Cancer funds research into less invasive treatments for children with Neuroblastoma and provide support to families like Evie's. Please Please help us raise vital funds to support them by donating via this page.

Many thanks,

Zoe, Shaun and Finley
