Story
Welp, I've managed to bag a space in the London Marathon thanks to The Desk & Chair Foundation (TDCF). I'll be aiming to complete an arduous 42.195km / 26.219 for this Charity which is very close to my heart.
I was fortunate enough to visit Mwanza, Tanzania in 2017 to see first-hand the impact this organisation makes within the community. Sibtain Meghjee, who currently oversees the operations in Mwanza drove us 2 hours+ over rocky terrain (not sure they would be classed as roads) to show us a well in rural Mwanza which provided clean water for over 100 people a day. Nearby, I also visited an area where a Mosque and school were under construction. Also, I met with a young man who was 19 and had lost his legs in a car accident. Thanks to generous donors, TDCF were able to provide the young man with a hand-operated tricycle so they could be independently mobile. I witnessed all this in a single afternoon with the charity.
So you may be wondering, TDCF seems to do a lot but what am I specifically fundraising for?
I am hoping to fundraise at least £3,000, which will pay for school fees for disadvantaged young people so they can undertake vocational courses at Mirongo Vocational Centre. £3,000 will allow 60 young people to access education which will positively impact their own lives as well as their local community.
I implore you to please donate, no matter how small or big. If you are not in a position to donate, I'd really appreciate you sharing this to help me achieve my goal.
And next time you see me please wish me good luck with the marathon - I'm definitely going to need all the luck I can get!
