Kate's 2017 Cardiff Half Marathon page

2017 Cardiff Half Marathon · 1 October 2017 ·
I'm running the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 1st October. I got in touch with Samaritans as I wanted to run for a charity close to my heart, one that helps people that are going through hard times and struggling to cope. I couldn’t think of anyone I’d rather run for.
My name is Kate. I am 34. I have a loving boyfriend and amazing family. I am lucky, but I have not always been happy, because I have not always dealt with my vulnerabilities – namely, Depression.
It could be triggered by something that's a reminder of my past or a moment that brings up stress. But what I've done since deciding I didn't want to be on medication is spend a lot of my energy exploring alternative ways like running & crafts. I love running in Barry, Wales, although you can't go for a run without encountering a few hills. I love running by the sea on a Sunday morning. We're blessed with variety here.

The nine branches in Wales manage the emotional support service, reaching out into local communities and supporting those who are struggling to cope round the clock, every day of the year. The demand for this service is ever increasing - last year, they took a call every three minutes. None of this would be possible without the time and dedication of volunteers.
I am looking forward to wearing my Samaritans running vest and seeing all my friends and family cheering me on.
