Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Established 2009 for our chosen charity Guide Dogs!

Gas Safe have decided to support a guide dog puppy by becoming part of their 'Name a Puppy Change a Life' scheme. We have reached our initial target of £5000 and Greg, our puppy was born on 20th July 2011!

BIG THANK YOU to everyone for continuing to donate generously since 2009 and to Guide Dogs for all their support during & after the running events.

We will continue to donate on a regular basis & I am sure Guide Dogs would appreciate your help too!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Guide Dogs gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor us now!

Coventry half marathon on 25th October saw Terry return from injury with a very respectable 1:59. I improved on last year with 1:53. Our next half will be Bath on 7th March 2010...hope the winter is mild.

11-Dec-09 Sadly Terry has had to pull out due to injury - on the positive side someone will now receive a place for London 2010 as an early Christmas present!

Two races since Christmas - Garstang 10k and a tough Radcliffe 10 mile multi-terrain with my buddy Tony - achieving a very respectable 1:31

Bit fed up with freezing February - still, managed 17 miles in 2:38 on Sunday in the snow/ice.

7-March-10 Bath Half Marathon - beat last year by 7 mins, hoping this means under 4hrs for London! Had an excellent stay again at Apsley House Hotel with Anel & Duncan.

28-March ran Wilmslow half marathon in 1:51, big race & very fancy trophy! Then came the snow and a calf injury...many thanks to Yvonne and Steve at www.iqtherapies.com for putting me back together again! Ran 15 miles on 11th April and tapering as normal now.

Ever the optomist I am still hoping to beat last years time, even hoping for sub-4hrs.

London report - official time 4:38:26 - was on target at 1:55 for half way then disaster at 15 mile mark, hams tightened & I thought it was over - but cold water & walking for 5 miles got me over the worst & then managed to jog the last 6 miles! Have applied again for 3rd time lucky for sub 4hrs! Can't wait for Dublin x

Cycled Land's End to John O'Groats! 14 days, average of 70 miles a day with a great group of equally mad cyclists!! A physically & mentally tough challenge...very enjoyable but hard to get back to a normal routine, feet shocked to be running again! x

Had a superb time in Dublin for their 31st Marathon on 25th October! Legs kept going for a personal best of 4:09 in spite of the lack of run training!

Have had my London 2011 place confirmed, so after a short rest here we go again!!!!

8-4-11 After a long hard winter it is lovely to see the sun! Yvonne & Steve have kept me running in spite of a niggle that won't go till I give it a proper rest...rest??? I have promised that after London I will give my old bones a break!! Good Luck everyone x

Thank you for all the support. Had a superb 3rd marathon with Allie Cole... Rest time at last!

The rest didn't last long... will be running Kielder Marathon on 9th October! Went up there to do my 22 mile training run, but had to complete the 26 mile to get back to base! Tough, hilly course does not begin to describe it - but breathtakingly beautiful.

Kielder was wet & windy for the marathon! Ran 4:28 beating this years London time so must be getting fitter! The big news story on the day was the 3rd place Rob Sloan who had cheated by catching a spectator bus at 20 mile back to the finish!!

Brighton was surprisingly tough compared to Kielder, my legs prefer hilly apparently! Was up with the 3:45 pace until the 15 mile marker then hit big problems...Still managed a PB of 4:03 so very happy!

Please continue to help us!

Best regards Julie & Terry x

Updates 1

Still chasing PB's... Brighton was so close to the sub 4 so I'm considering Manchester in 2 weeks time! Already have the Great North and Kielder to look forward to ;-)

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of blind and partially sighted people never leave home alone. Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies totally on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service. We breed and train guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. The full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.
