Welcome back to the 4th annual Charity Geekathon- the event where Tim Henton and Kirsty Dodge watch a ridiculously long movie marathon all in aid of local charities. Over the past 3 years we have watched EVERY Tolkein film, EVERY Harry Potter film, EVERY Star Wars film and now we have turned our attention to the House Of Mouse to binge watch every theatrically-released animated movie that Disney released during the 1990s!
The charity we are supporting this year is Carter's Journey.
Carter is now 2 years old and has a twin brother Benton. Everything was ok during pregnancy but when the boys were born they had twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). Because of this the boys were seriously poorly. Benton has come out with no medical issues and had a 4 week hospital stay. Carter had many many problems but the main being a stroke. This stroke has caused PVL brain damage and cerebral palsy.
Carters monthly therapy costs are £690 and these types of therapy are not available on the NHS.
We host the Geekathon as an open house every year so that family and friends can join us in our challenge and can hop in and out as they please. We plan games, prizes and refreshments to keep everyone (including ourselves) as awake as possible on the trek. Our planned schedule for the movies is as follows;
09:00 The Little
Mermaid
10:24 Duck Tales The Movie
11:38 The Rescuers Down Under
12:55 Beauty and The Beast
14:19 Aladdin
15:49 The Lion King (Kirsty's Favourite
movie!!!)
17:17 A Goofy Movie (Tim's Favourite movie!!!)
18:35 Pocahontas
19:57 Toy Story
21:18 The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
22:49 Hercules
00:22 Mulan
01:49 A Bugs Life
03:24 Tarzan
04:52 Toy Story 2
06:24 END *or* Moana
08:11 END
At present, our marathon is over 22 hours long but as an extra challenge, if we hit our fundraising target of £700 before the end of the marathon, we will be forced to watch a BONUS Disney movie as well! We hosted polls on our Twitter page and you folks helped us pick Moana as our Bonus Movie
For those not able to attend, we will be posting live updates on our Twitter account throughout the event at Twitter.com/DisneyGeekathon where you can also see photos and videos from our previous Geekathons (no account needed to view)
