Story

Ok people.. here goes.
My name is Paul Welsh.
My beautiful fiancé Gemma Cottam, her lovely friend Johnpaul Lawless and I are planning to jump out of a plane on the 2nd of April 2017 all in the name of charity.

Doing this means so much to all our families, the work that Cancer Research Uk does gives everyone new hope of one day beating cancer.

On Saturday, October 3rd 2015, Gem was diagnosed with Stage 3 Malignant Melanoma, the deadliest form of Skin Cancer.. The word cancer stops everyone in their tracks, it's one of the most scariest battle anyone will face. That day will be a day we will never forget, the heartbreak that filled all of our hearts not knowing what was going to happen to our beautiful, bubbly, caring, funny, kind girl.
During a horrible battle, Gem underwent 3 major operations to her face and neck, removing all the lymph nodes from the left side of her neck and a fair bit of skin leaving her with severe scarring..
For a time cancer took our Gemma, but in January this year, we all received the news that we had been hoping for..
The results came back clear, she was and still is classed as NED. (No evidence of disease)

The story though, unfortunately doesn't stop there, in July.. we all faced a new scare when Gem was rushed in for emergency surgery after a patch of skin turned purple on her check, being told to prepare for the news that the cancer was returning made us all sick to our stomachs. No! This can't be happening again..

Thankfully, the results came back fine.. an inflamed infection which would of needed to be removed surgically but most importantly- it wasn't cancer.

Gemma, since being diagnosed has campaigned tirelessly, with her facebook page - Mela-no-more, trying her best to raise awareness of melanoma, showing people how serious it is and that it isn't just a case of "cutting it out"
She's already done some amazing things, being featured in national and local newspapers, TV and radio, taking part in charity events and even opening the Aintree, Race for Life.
Everything she does, she does creating a very important message, many many people don't realise just how serious this form of cancer is, many many people think that because melanoma (in its earlier stages is best treated with surgery and not chemo, that it's not that bad) WRONG!
In mine, hers, our families and the MANY other melanoma fighters opinion, cancer is cancer. We wouldn't know how some cancers are best treated if it wasn't for the work that Cancer Research UK does..

Melanoma can and does kill..
SKIN CANCER IS THE MOST COMMON FORM OF CANCER IN THE UK. - please don't forget that!

Being scared of heights, I was a little surprised that Gem wanted to do this jump with me.. but this just shows how amazing, strong and determined she is..

So I am asking you to support us by giving as much or as little as you can.. I know how much it means to her and to me, the more money we can raise the more money that can go into creating new ways to fight, create new treatments and hopefully one day.. a cure for cancer.

Love Paul. X
