Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am currently in training to run this year's Flora London Marathon for Samaritans.  For those of you who don't know me, I am the manageing director of Court jeweller, Wartski and the jewel specialist on the BBC's "Antiques Roadshow".  I have been a Samaritans Ambassador for more than fifteen years and I am also the Patron of the Lowestoft Branch.

The Flora London Marathon has been described as the 'suburban man's Everest' and it has been my ambition to climb it for several years - five years infact!  It all started when I began to walk part of the way to work.  I found that the weight, the years and some of the grey hair fell away, so the gym was the next step.  The purchase of an iPod, loaded with corny 70's heavy metal and rock helped me become fitter, literally in leaps and bounds.  My favourite track for running is Bob Marley's "Trenchtown Rock": 'When the music hits ya feel no pain!'.

The training has been increased during the last three years and in 2008 I completed the Bristol Half Marathon in 2hrs 20 mins.  I am now ready for "The Big One" and hope that you will be kind enough to support me with some sponsorship.  If you feel you can help it will mean the world to me.

Read what Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry had to say when they found out about my marathon training:

"We thought we knew Geoffrey Munn, he of the quiet word and encyclopaedic knowledge of all that glisters: well we were wrong.  I was unconscious with admiration, prostrate with fear and disbelief  commingled when I heard the news!  He is about to set world records reeling as he saunters through the Flora London Marathon, scarcely breaking sweat!  A man above rubies!  Brave fool!  I salute you and shall make sure your victor's tinfoil cape is studded with star sapphires.  (Knees my dear!  Good Lord, I can't even think of it.  Eyes tight shut!) Run, boy run!  Your support for Samaritans inspires us all".                  Joanna Lumley

"So many people dress up in over elaborate costumes to look rediculous when they run marathons, but Geoffrey Munn is going in the subtle but hilarious disguise of a middle aged man desperate to roll back the years.  He is almost certain to win the prize for most preposterous runner of the day.  But there's no chance of him finishing, so why not pledge an enormous amount?  I mean, you'll never have to cough up.  If there's any coughing up to be done, Geoffrey will be the one doing it.  Coughing, retching and heaving on the roadside, hands on hips, gasping like a landed fish.  I'll promise the Samaritans £500 if he completes, but my money's safe.  No finer man in the world to value a Faberge egg - but 26 miles, 385 yards?  Never!  Good luck though,Geoffrey".                                            Stephen Fry

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure.  it's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Samaritans gets your money faster and, if you're a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% suppliment, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now and help Smaritans run 24:7
