In September 2020, Rory O’Neill (George’s Uncle), was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Parkinson’s is a disease that affects the neurological system, resulting in your general movement being affected. As the disease progresses a person may have muscle stiffness, and have trouble walking and maintaining your balance and coordination. Typical day to day exercises that people often take for granted are significantly impacted.
On 8th April 2022, Rory commenced a clinical trial for a new drug to help slow down the progression of the disease. In the fight against Parkinson’s he has decided to take on another challenge by climbing Everest Base Camp on the 9th May 2022 and raised over €15,000 to help find a cure (profile picture is Rory at the summit of Everest Base Camp).
To support Rory’s journey, Barry and George are officially part of the Parkinson’s Champions team for 2022. We are training to run 42 km (26 miles) in the New York City Marathon to raise money and awareness as a Parkinson’s Champion, benefiting the Parkinson’s Foundation. We are excited to support groundbreaking research while going the distance.
Our efforts are to help fund important community programs and research. This mission means a lot as our goal is to raise €10,000. Every penny we raise will go toward the Parkinson’s Foundation’s mission to make life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.
Your donation helps support resources like the Parkinson’s Foundation Centers of Excellence. These are medical centers with a specialized team of neurologists, movement disorder specialists and many others who provide the best Parkinson’s care. Combined, the 48 centers in the network provide care to more than 145,000 people with PD.
If you would like to help Rory, Barry and I support these vital community programs and bringing expert care to more people with Parkinson’s, please donate using the "Give Now" button above!
Many thanks,
Barry & George
