Georgia's Bike Quest 2014

Georgia's Ride · 29 October 2014
Welcome to my JustGiving page.
Georgia is just over a year old and was born with a large brown birthmark on her body, known as Congenital Melanocytic Naevus. It is similar to a mole but covers a much larger percentage of her body capacity and doctors say it can lead to complications such as an increased risk of malignancy and involvement of the brain and spinal cord (neurocutaneous melanosis).
Caring Matters Now was set up by a CMN sufferer in 1998 to help support other sufferers and their families to raise awareness of the condition and raise funds for the CMN research. It costs £30,000 a year to fund research at the Great Ormond Street hospital in London. Money to fund this research comes solely from direct donations and fundraisers arranged by families of those affected by Congenital Melanocytic Naevus.
My name is Dave Chapman, Georgia’s cousin, and I was privileged to take part in a fundraising day last July which helped to raise funds to assist with the vital research required to learn more about this condition.
Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) which is a long term bowel disease which can cause me severe abdominal pain and low energy levels. The support and ongoing research into this condition by the National Association of Crohns and Colitis (NACC) have enabled me to live a relatively normal, healthy life by calming my symptoms through medication.
I want to help promote a similar level of understanding and awareness into CMN and raise more funds for this worthy charity by doing a sponsored cycle ride in October this year. I will be starting from my home in Herne Bay, Kent and cycling solo, 240 miles over 4 days, to Nottingham travelling through Kent, Essex, Cambridge, Northampton, Loughborough and Nottingham. All monies raised from this ride will be donated to CMN.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page, I hope that you will consider sponsoring me. Your valued donation will enable CMN to continue with its research which will help to enrich the lives of Georgia and young people like her and allow them to live healthy lives too.
Thank you very much.
