Story

Gerry (Tony) Birchall passed away on the 31st August 2014 aged 81. He was the devoted husband of Ruth (nee Aspinall, Deceased) and a widely loved dad, granddad, brother, mentor, teacher and friend. Gerry’s reach to those he loved, taught, influenced and befriended was extraordinary and enriched the world. Funeral service will take place at Corpus Christi Church, Rainford on Tuesday 9th September 2014 followed by burial at St James’ Church, Orrell.

Martin, his eldest son, has established a research programme to develop a safe and widely available alternative to organ transplantation. This is based on using a person's own stem cells and has already saved lives. We are raising money to pay for a bright young person to take up a studentship in the laboratories and work on a project to improve the strength of the organs they create.

Gerry loved teaching and training young people and bringing out their full potential. Your donation will help grow a young scientist into one of tomorrow's leaders of medical science. Even a small donation will provide essential equipment for the laboratory.

Thank you for remembering the life of this extraordinary, generous and unique man.
