St Luke’s is the local hospice for Harrow and Brent. We care for people whose illnesses are no longer curable, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life during the final stages of their illness. We are proud to offer all of our services free of charge.

Story

Hi everyone,

I am taking part in the 2011 Virgin London Marathon and i need all the support I can get to reach my target.

This is my third Marathon in 12 months (London 2010, New York 2010).

My chosen charity is St Lukes Hospice, Kenton Grange, Harrow.

St Luke's Hospice is an independent charity serving the multi-cultural/ethnic community of Harrow and Northern Brent. Unique in the area, it provides all its services free of charge to all and relies heavily on voluntary contributions from the community to ensure it remains open (it currently receives less than one third of its funding from the Government).

Since it opened at Kenton Grange in 2000, they have cared for over 1,500 patients within their inpatient and day care units. It has also provided advice and support for their families and carers.

Hospice care is based on the simple idea that a dying patient is a living person, with unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. St Luke's exists to support those needs as well as the needs of their families and carers. St Luke's is not an NHS Hospital, nor an exclusive private facility. Providing care free of charge, for rich or poor, young or old, regardless of faith or belief, in a compassionate and peaceful environment, requires a high standard of skilled medical and nursing care.

Mission Statement

To provide specialist palliative care free of charge to people with advanced, progressive illnesses, which addresses their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs thus enhancing their quality of life and supporting their families and carers.
