Story

Macmillan are running A Really Good Night in events all over the UK - and we're joining in! Manchester Girl Geeks presents an evening of geeky fun, hosted by Manchester web developers Reason Digital at their HQ in the city centre, on Friday 26th April from 7-10pm.

Instead of going out on a Friday night, Macmillan would like you to donate the cash you would have spent on going out to their campaign, and instead spend a night in with your friends.

We'll be getting together for a night of cosy hot drinks, tasty snacks and techy talks - we'll be using the Pecha Kucha format, so each talk will consist of 20 slides each shown for 20 seconds. Time to talk about something interesting, but no time to get boring or waffle on! We'll spread the talks out through the evening, and we'll also have geeky games to play and you can hang out and chat with other girl geeks!

What to bring:

- yourself, plus a cushion, pillow, blanket etc to make yourself comfortable on the lovely smooth wooden floor. If you can bring a beanbag or low inflatable chair, even better!

- if you'd like to give a talk, your slides on a USB stick or your laptop (if you need assistance putting together your slides, email manchestergirlgeeks@gmail.com and we can turn 20 photos into a talk for you) - please let us know if you're giving a talk in the comment box when you donate, and if possible your talk topic. We're hoping to have around 10-12 talks altogether, so not everyone who's coming needs to speak.

- if you have a Nintendo DS (or DS lite, DSi or 3DS), please bring it and we can attempt to get some multiplayer games going… we have Bomberman and Tetris!

- any cakes/biscuits/snacks you've baked (optional) - we will provide some as well as hot chocolate, Horlicks, tea and coffee. If you have any favourites to add, please bring them along.

Instead of selling tickets for this event, we're taking donations through this page. We've got 30 places to fill, and your donation should be what you would have otherwise spent on a night out. Think about it - a few drinks, a taxi home, a kebab on the way back? It could easily add up to £20, £30, £40... the first 30 people to make a donation and put a comment with it requesting a place will be emailed details of the event. You're also very welcome to make a donation anyway - the more we raise, the better!

IMPORTANT: If you'd like to come, please make sure when you donate you include 'I'd like to come' in your donation comment, and make sure you input your email address so we can contact you and send details of how to get to the venue. If you can't do this, or you forget, please send an email to manchestergirlgeeks@gmail.com letting us know you'd like to come along - we only have 30 spaces, so it's important you let us know.

We look forward to seeing you there!
