Story
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my marathon fund-raising page. I'm running the 2008 London Marathon in aid of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). So please dig deep, and then a little deeper, and sponsor me.
As I'm sure most of you know, this is a very important cause for me. Just over two years ago Jessica was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This is a chronic, life changing and dangerous condition. Beyond this, it's miserable for a six year old to live with. JDRF are doing some great research that may dramatically improve my daughter's quality of life. This is worth me straining my legs (and you're wallets ;-) for. If you want to see more please go to http://www.jdrf.org.uk/.
As my training and fund raising efforts progress I'll update this page with my latest exploits.
Also, I have some prime real estate to sell. If your company would like to sponsor me, I'll be happy to attach your logo to my person. Outside of the JDRF running vest, there is space on each shoulder, on my front or back, or on my cap.
To sponsor me, please use this site (which is simple and immediate), or catch me in person.
Many thanks!
Gideon.
>>>>>>>>>> 21-4-8 - DONE IT! <<<<<<<<<
That was an amazing experience. I managed to get around in 3 hours 56 minutes.
I want to pass on a huge thank you to all that have sponsored me. Above all, this was to raise money for a charity that can directly help Jessica. I'm really grateful to all those that have donated and to those that have worked to raise money on my behalf.
I managed to get through half way in around 1 hours 48 minutes, and was feeling OK at that pace. Then, at around mile 17 I started to experience "the wall"... well, it was more of a slope that just kept on getting steeper and steeper. I pushed my way through to mile 23, but had to take a short walk after the last Lucazade drinks station when I thought I might pass out. So, I drank a full bottle of the stuff and as many Jelly Babies as I could and got running again. Once I had a bit of sugar in me I felt a lot better, and ended up overtaking others down the home straight (always looks good).
This site is great at listing all those that have sponsored me on-line. In addition to those, I would like to thank the following:
Mr Usman Choudhry
Mr Paul Matthews
Mrs Ildiko Albreght
Mrs Lesley Judge
Ms Susan Grindon
Ms Jude Ivanoff
Freya
James
Sarah
Gerry & Joanna Gregory
Emma and Alec
The BTP techies
Jac
... and Roger and Pet for their fundraising efforts on my behalf.
In addition to this, Venture 1 Consulting, Xactaware, and Civica Services for their corporate sponsorships!
