At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving pages.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

When Simon and I were discussing about our wedding gift list, it didn't take us long to realise we didn't need or want for anything. So instead of asking for gifts we are asking you to donate the equivalent to one or split between two charities that have great meaning to us both.

The first through this website for the Alzheimers Society (which will be ring-fenced for the Uttlesford district branch). And the second for the Broomfield Hospital Haematology Ward which can be accessed through the following website www.justgiving.com/giveforeirascott.

My Gran (Margery Turner) suffers from Alzheimers, she is currently being cared for in a home in Saffron Walden, no longer recognising familiar faces. This is extremely sad especially for my Mum and Aunt Suzi. In the early stages Granny was cared for by them both at home and the local Alzheimers branch were very supportive. I have such fond memories of her namely - playing hockey in the garden with her in her wellington boots and apron, and another when we went out blackberry picking in the hedgerows on the farm and we both fell into the ditch, we couldn't get out for us both laughing hysterically. It's such a shame that neither Simon nor Haydn really got to know her, nor did she really know that I achieved my childhood dream and played in the Olympics - something she was supportive of me achieving.

Eira (a very close family friend) passed away back in September last year. She had been suffering from myelofibrosis, a disorder that affects bone marrow tissue. She was told it would be very unlikely that she would see her 70th birthday, however, January last year we celebrated her 70th in style in Devon with many of her friends and family. She will be remembered so dearly by us all. Simon's fondest memory of Eira is when she came out to support me playing in the World Cup in Madrid in 2006. They both sat in the bar until 3am drinking whisky and putting the world to rights.  We are very glad she got to meet Haydn.

We hope you enjoy our wedding party, it is also celebrating Haydn's first birthday which is the day of our actual wedding 10th August. We look forward to seeing you all on the 14th August.

Best wishes to all and many thanks for our wedding gift.

Simon & Lisa.
