Oct 11 Update:

Again many thanks to everyone who donated. Special thanks to Katherine, Anonymous, Kostas, Bernd and Jan-Christoph Schlage-Puchta - your donations have been matched to buy anti-malaria nets:

Aug 19 Update:

Many thanks to everyone who donated so far!

I am now back from Ghana, but the daily dose of antimalaria antibiotics keeps the memory of this interesting country still fresh  (please rest assured I most likely don't have malaria).

The workshops were not a complete and utter success, but I think we did some (measurable) good. Also, I forgot how much fun teaching elementary mathematics can be, so it was really nice to go back to it.

I'm still trying to reach my fundraising target to make future teacher workshops in Africa possible.  So if you haven't donated yet, there's
still a chance! :-)

As a bonus: I will be matching all donations from now on via donating to malaria related charities, up to 300 pounds in total. So for example if you donate 10 pounds to my fundraiser, effectively you will  be donating 10 pounds for teacher workshops and 10 pounds for fighting malaria! Yay! (receipts for malaria donations will be posted here)

Again - thanks to everyone who donated so far!

Original message:

I'm volunteering for Warwick in Africa this summer. Warwick in Africa is a program whose main aims are

1. Teaching maths and english in disadvantaged communities in Africa, and

2. Coaching, mentoring, and training maths and english teachers in Africa.

The main part I'll be involved in is a series of workshops for mathematics teachers in Ghana. I really hope to make a difference using my maths teaching experience!

But there's also a second part to my involvement - making sure that Warwick in Africa will be able to continue its activities in the next years. My fundraising target is £750.

If, like me, you believe that improving education in poorer countries, through concrete grassroot actions, can make a lasting difference in the world, please help me reach my target.

Thanks! :-)
