To preserve and protect early-generation jet aircraft and to inspire new generations of youngsters to a career in engineering, science or aviation by demonstrating working, living examples.

Story

On Saturday 26th March, our team of seven swimmers took part in the Cleeve Hill 41 Club Swimarathon to raise money for the world's last airworthy Vulcan Bomber, XH558. In their 45 minute session they swam an amazing 148 lengths of the 25m pool, the equivalent of a length every 18.24 seconds! This was enough to win them the award for "Most Lengths Swum" in the Senior Category - as well as the junior swimmers, Team Leader Dick Brown also swam a few lengths. Rumour has it, Dick is 70! Dick's aim for next year will be to achieve the magic 150 lengths. He thinks maybe the children would find this easier to achieve without him slowing them down!

We are very grateful for the generosity of those who have contributed. If you have not yet contributed, but would like to do so, this page will remain open for a little longer yet.

XH558 is maintained and operated by the Vulcan to the Sky Trust (http://www.vulcantothesky.org/) and your money will help to ensure the stable finances needed to complete another amazing season of flying displays.

Your donations will also help to pay for a new education programme for schools, enabling the children to learn about the amazing achievements of British engineering in the post-war period. They will also hear about how the nuclear deterrent helped to keep the peace during the Cold War and will, we hope, be inspired to become the new generation of engineers!
