Story
Orange Day is about making a difference in the community where we live and work. To this point a number of IT employees are giving up their time and lots of energy to take part in the 2009 Monster Challenge! GSK is providing support through the use of an Orange Day and all participants are self funding the event.
Four teams have been entered thus far with members from across C&ES, SCS, EUS IT and GMS IT. The event consists of teams of four negotiating a 120K route around the shores and mountains of the famous LochNess on 12th September starting and finishing in Inverness.
Goblin Pigs Barmy Army - Jason Lee, John Harris, Dave Reid, Jamie Payne
Team Cosmopolitan - Giovanni Retana, Leigh Pedersen, Clare Hickie, Shaun Joslin
What's that coming over the hill.... - Jonathan Mayne, Alex Lombardo, Alec Dyer, Alastair Robertson
Should Be No Problem - William Hayes, Dino Laudato, Richard Haley, Simon Phillipson
...and once again we will enjoy the services of team coach, motivator and manager (aka The Monster) - Damian Waite.
This year the teams will be focusing on raising funds for a national charity (Multiple Sclerosis) and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Both have strong, local connections to the teams. In addition to contributing to these charitible organisations this is a great opportunity for team building and motivation and is ultimately a very rewarding experience for all involved.
This page is if you would like to donate to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. Our other page is http://www.justgiving.com/gskmonster/ where you can donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Great Ormond Street Hospital is a specialist childrens hospital which provides world-class care for its young patients and their families. Clare Hickie's son, Daniel, was born with a rare condition called Gastroschisis, weighing only 5lbs5oz, he was critically ill and almost died. Daniel's abdomen developed a hole during his development and as a consequence he was born with his small intestine outside of his body. He was admitted immediately into the intensive care unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital and this was to be his home for the 3 months of his life. During this time he endured 6 operations by the most amazing surgeons in the UK and fantastic aftercare by very special and dedicated nursing staff. Great Ormond Street Hospital saved Daniel's life and he is now a healthy 18 year old! Clare is one mother who can honestly say she know her son 'inside' aswell as outside! This is an opportunity for Clare to give a little back to an organisation that made a huge impact to her, her husband and her very special son.
Every year Great Ormond Street Hospital needs to raise over £50 million to help replace cramped, outdated wards with new modern facilities, provide essential equipment and fund essential research to find treatments and cures for complex and difficult illnesses. Amazing things happen at Great Ormond Street Hospital every day. Please help to keep the magic alive for thousands of children (like Daniel) and their families by donating as much as you can to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, they need your help!
