SCT Challenge · 15 July 2014

Since 1965 we've helped people find a life beyond homelessness & addiction. Embedded in East London, we provide places to stay, address the complex causes of addiction, run classes to help develop skills, confidence & build vital social connections and help people establish a lasting recovery.

Story

Team: Pete Dawson, Richard Joyce, Nigel Mattinson, Edward Orme, George Chacko, James Hartley, Marina Simmons

Background: Grant Thornton gives each employee one day per year to volunteer, which we would like to use this year to give something back to the local community, through a corporate responsibility day in July. We are partnering with Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT), a local charity in an “apprentice style” challenge, combining volunteering and fundraising to benefit the community in East London.

Activity: Up to 7 teams of c.5 people from across the firm will each takeover a charity shop for the day, working with the shop manager and volunteers with the aim of maximising the revenue for the shop on the day.

Charity: Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) http://www.sct.org.uk/ - A local charity, formed in 1965, that support people recovering from addiction in a range of ways including residential recovery, supported housing, drop-in centres, relapse prevention and providing training, work experience and employment through a number of social enterprises. They raise money from a variety of sources including through 7 charity shops in East London.
