On Sunday 9th September, I will be participating in the Great North Run in aid of Sunflowers Cancer Centre in Aigburth. This wonderful local charity does magnificent work in providing services, free treatments and a place to go for patients at all stages and for their carers. They take a bit of the sting out of the awful isolation created by this disease, which alone is priceless.

They continue to support myself and Katy as she recovers from chemo and a range of other chemicals that are more than enough to put you off your dinner. I know that they keep going through the sheer grit and goodwill of a small number of staff and volunteers who do amazing work daily and unlike other charities, they receive no public funding.

This will be the last time for a while that I shove out the begging bowl as my knees can't really take more than ten miles. I will start to look like a pre-war music hall comedian doing a funny dance while pinching in a number two if I don't wind it down a bit soon, so please spare them a few shekels, lovelies.
