Story
I will be travelling to Africa next month to Kisrawe, a small and remote village in Tanzania, Africa. Kisrawe is amongst Tanzania’s most vulnerable areas and is suffering from severe water scarcity caused by deforestation.
Whilst there, I will be working on and implementing several short and long term solutions (water, livelihood, renovating schools and environmental sustainability)
Livelihood
I will be giving the poorest and most needy families in the district with all the tools, equipment and training they will need on how to run a small business that will suit their skills and interests. This will range from giving families taxis, fishing nets, cattle for rearing, small shops, sewing machines etc enabling them to sustain themselves long after we have gone.
Water Solutions
Water scarcity is rife as the land is becoming barren and dry. Mothers and young boys/girls are the primary water collectors and travel long distances to collect contaminated water to give to their families to drink.
I will be helping installing systems that can collect and purify this water for families to drink. I will also be installing several water distribution tanks. Families will then have access to safe drinking water, they can water their crops, giving them safer food and reducing health risks.
Schools
Many of the schools in Kisrawe of so poorly resourced that it does not make it worth the child attending school, they do not have the basic equipment that I enjoyed during my education. Children are deprived of school books, bags, stationery even chairs and desks. I will be helping resource one of the school in Kisrawe so that each child that attends the school has a better prospect of being educated.
Environmental Sustainability
This is a long term solution and the first phase of it will be to educate the people on the severe detrimental effects of deforestation to their land and to involve the locals in helping us to plant more trees. Changing the culture and awareness will be the key to making a change for the next generation and prevent their children from becoming climate change refugees.
Every donation helps, no matter how small. Together we can improve the lives of the Kisrawe people, thank you.
