Hard-Corps Challenge.
During the Remembrance weekend of the 12 & 13th November 2011 Julian Andrews and Noel Chambers will be attempting to complete the biggest physical challenge of our lives in order to raise money for The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF).
A serving Royal Marines Physical Training Instructor has set a two-day physical trial that will be the “ultimate test” of our fitness, endurance, and will power.
‘The goal’ –
To emulate two of the four Commando Tests that are conducted by all Royal Marine recruits during the latter stages of the 32 weeks Royal Marines training.
On Saturday 12 of November, we will attempt the Endurance Course at the back of a Royal Marines Recruit Troop. We will have 73 minutes to complete a 7-mile cross-country course around the hills and obstacles of Woodbury Common, close to the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Lympstone, Devon.
The following day (Remembrance Sunday), we will transfer to the extreme terrain of Dartmoor and start a grueling 30-mile Ultra-Marathon run across some of the most rugged and unforgiving terrain in the South-West of England, navigating our way in a bid to reach the end within a set 8-hour period.
The challenge will be a huge test of our individual resilience, endurance and self-belief. It is a testament to the physical brutality of what has been set, that we will need every bit of support we can muster and are assured in the knowledge that our friends, family and colleagues, will be behind us to the very last step.
We have the utmost respect for the men of the Corps and the fact that it takes months of physical and mental training for Royal Marine recruits to earn the right to wear the coveted Green Beret. With this in mind, Noel and I are united in our belief that the main incentive will be the knowledge that if we complete our challenge, we will have raised some funds for the RMCTF and in turn, some of the great projects they support.
Your generosity and support, no matter how small the donation, would be most kind hearted and very greatly appreciated.
Julian Andrews is a 43-year-old photographer from London. He has worked alongside Royal Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq. And recently had the honor to be commissioned as the photographer for the book ‘Nothing Impossible, A portrait of the Royal Marines’ which was published in 2010. It was while working on the book and meeting men that had received life changing injuries he felt compelled and inspired to want to raise awareness and money by undertaking the ‘Hard Corps Challenge’.
Noel Chambers is a 42 year old Fire Engineer from London who works in the Security Industry alongside the MOD, and has been “persuaded” by Julian to undertake this mid life crisis event!
