Our son Harry has been diagnosed with deformational plagiocephaly.A condition which causes a mis-shapen head, buldging to areas of the forehead and movement to parts of the face including eyes and ears. He has seen specialists and been placed in the severe catagory. We have tried many repositioning techniques but have seen no improvement.

Unfortunately the NHS do not fund any treatment for this condition as they class it as cosmetic, clearly not taking any consideration into the importance of simply "looking normal" to a childs emotional and social development.

As the child grows there is a 50/50 chance that they will grow out of the condition, but there are no guarantees. Sometimes it may completely correct, whereas other times it may not improve at all. if the condition does not improve side effects can include increased ear infections, facial deformaties and effect the hearing, balance and jaw due to the ears being out of line.

A treatment that is available and has proved extremely successful for many children is called a Starband. Its basically a special helmet made specially to fit his head, it will apply a gentle pressure to certain parts of the head, whilst at the same time allowing it to grow into its correct shape. The helmet is worn for 23 hours a day for aprox 6 months, the earlier the treatment is started the more successful the outcome is.

The treatment costs 1950.00 so we have started this fundraising page to try and raise contributions towards the costs and at the same time raising awareness about this little known condition

All money raised will be paid directly to the charity Headstart4babies where it will then be paid towards Harrys treatment
