London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

Our mission is to stop men dying by suicide and we believe death by suicide is preventable. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 35. At James’ Place, we provide professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future.

Story

On 3rd October 2021 I will be running the London Marathon in support of James' Place.

James' Place is a suicide prevention charity that was started by my parents in memory of my older brother James, who took his own life when he was 21. James went looking for someone to talk to about his suicidal thoughts but didn't find the urgent help he so desperately needed.

James' Place makes the experience of finding help as easy as possible. It offers men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place find themselves in a space where they feel valued and respected.

The first James’ Place opened in June 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, and has to date supported more than 450 men experiencing suicidal crisis, delivering over 2,000 therapy sessions using an innovative therapeutic intervention. A new James’ Place centre will open in London in early 2022, and we plan to open further centres across the UK over the next three years.
