Mount Kenya
is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa
(after Mount Kilimanjaro). The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian
(5,199 m - 17,058 ft), Nelion (5,188 m - 17,022 ft) and Lenana (4,985 m - 16,355 ft).
(We will be climbing upto Pt Lenana.) Mount Kenya is located in central
Kenya, just south of the equator, around 150 km (95 miles)
north-northeast of Nairobi.
In
order to give you a better idea of where the money will be going, I
have the details of where the money went from the 2006 Kilimonjaro trek:
1)
Water Aid Projects (Kenya) - construction of Bore-Wells in rural areas
where people face extreme hardship for obtaining water. The areas are
selected after obtaining geological reports and professional guidance
so as to optimise the usage of the water. The village communities are
trained to maintain the hand pumps and to ensure fair & sustainable
water supply.
2) Food Aid Projects (Kenya) - preparation and
distribution of emergency medical and food aid helping to protect the
lives of those most vunerable - the children, elderly and sick.
3) Medical Aid (Mombasa) - eye operations were funded to help those that were visually impaired.
4)
Education Aid Projects (Nairobi):Providing bursary to impoverished
students in Jamhuri High School to help improve their chances of
leading a successful life and help relieve themselves from their
situation.
5) Social Welfare Projects:Funding was provided for acquisition of portable tractors to help yield better crops.

Saraswati Vidyalaya - One Teacher School (OTS)
Currently, from the UK, we have sponsored over 4,000 out of 28,000 one teacher schools in Nepal and India. This is the most unique education project in the world with a target of 100,000 by 2012. The project aims to remove illiteracy among the 150 million tribal people living in the most remote villages in these areas, as illiteracy is the source of poverty and exploitation. On OTS is run on shoe string budget of 68p per day. Please take a few seconds to look at the photos on this website.
My son, Yajur, and I successfully conquered
Mt Kenya. We are delighted that our efforts with your generous
financial support will provide much needed relief to those less fortune
than ourselves. We personally witnessed how these people are
benefitting from the SEWA projects but they still need our continued
support.
So please continue to sponsor me generously! Thank you!
