Those of you who know my little boy Max and everything he has been through will know why I want to raise money for Great Ormond Street.

Max was born at 26 weeks (14 weeks premature) and due to a brain hemorrhage 10 days after his birth developed hydrocephalus. He was operated on at 3 months and had a shunt fitted. Max left hospital after 5 months and we thought all was well. Unfortunately Max began to get sick when he was 18 months old and over the course of a year got progressively sicker. He was in terrible pain and was vomiting constantly for 4/5 days out of every 9 days.

The doctors in Hertfordshire failed to diagnose him correctly or refer him to a neurosurgeon. Fortunately Max was under the care of Great Ormond Street for his shunt management and when he had his shunt review the neurosurgeon raised the possibility that Max had a rare condition called Slit Ventricle Syndrome. 

Max went in to hospital in January 2012 and was additionally diagnosed with craniostenosis. Over a period of 4 months he underwent 3 major operations (including a cranial vault expansion) to correct this and is now doing amazingly well.

I am profoundly grateful for the skill and amazing commitment of Max's surgeons and to everyone who cared for him whilst he was in Great Ormond Street. 

Our lives have been totally transformed by their help and Max is now just a really happy healthy little boy.
