You never think of doing anything like this until it actualy happens to you! I feel pasionate about this but never actually got on with doing something about it! It could happen to any one of us!
i really hope it makes a difference! This is my story...
As most of you are aware, when i were 15/16 years old i was diagnosed with an illness called Guillain- Barre sydrome. In April 2005 i started to become very ill and it got to the point where i couldnt live a normal life, i cudn't go to school or do normal things girls do my age! My boyfriend couldn't cope with it.i started to notice i couldn't speak, i barely could move my limbs, i was unable to swallow so that meant ma weight dropped off shockingly! i had to drop out of school which meant i was unable to take my GCSE's which means i have not a chance of university!
My GP kept telling me it was stress and tirdness but i knew there was something seriously wrong with me!
Then on the 10th of may 2005 i was admitted into hospital, i had brain scans, lumber puncutes millions of tests to see what was wrong with me it were a mystery, nobody could figure out what was the matter with me! I was transfered to a nerve specialist unit where they finally diagnosed me with GBS! By that time i was completly paralyised, they told me they didn't really know much but they wasnt a treatment for me, i had to slowly recover, they said could take months even years! When am 19 i wil be fully recovered but they are chances of a relapse! I had to start my life over again at 16 learn how to walk, speak, eat, my senses al started to slowly come back and my movements. sumdays were a stuggle, sum days still are, with long term effects stil with me. but you learn to live with things and be greatful with what you have.
It was a very emotional and tramatic time for me and especially my family and friends. But i had so much support! Everybody were great and the NHS staff were amazing throughout it all and through my recovery progress!
Id like to say thank you to everybody who helped me through it, your envolvement is far more important than any amout of money!
I am doing this for a personal cause but also to help other GBS suffers. I want to raise money, so that medical professionals can learn more about GBS, be able to reserch into this rare illness more. so they can diagnose patients alot quicker and start treating them, and to support the patients and families!
Guillain-Barré syndrome patients face not only physical difficulties, but emotionally painful periods as well. It is often extremely difficult for patients to adjust to sudden paralysis and dependence on others for help with routine daily activities. Patients sometimes need psychological counseling to help them adapt.
