The BAM Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge · 24 October 2009

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provides advanced life-saving emergency care for everyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are a ‘mobile emergency department’ that relies entirely on donations to keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Story

Event Date 24th October 2009

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

WAA is funded by the people of Wales, relying on the public support to help keep them flying. The charity does not receive direct funding from the government and because they are classed as an emergency service they also fail to qualify for National Lottery funding. The money is therefore raised through charitable donations, fundraising events, and membership of their lifesaving lottery.

The charity needs to raise over £5 million per year to operate the service. The charity raises all the funds required for the day to day running of missions, with each mission on average costing £1200.

Therefore we will start from Pen y Pass, Snowdonia, where we will take on Snowdon. Upon completing Wales highest peak we will drive down to the mighty Cadair Idris (also in Snowdonia) before continuing south to Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons. We will walk a total distance of 20.35 miles and make a total ascent of 9,397ft (2,864m) whilst seeing some of the most spectacular views Wales has to offer.
