We back people to protect rainforest and climate crisis

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 30th December 2017  Arfon "Bear" Hughes will be taking part in the Monkey Run challenge, along with Paul "Bravo 2-0" Ezard.  We will be dropped off in the Sahara Desert near Merghouza and will have six days to cross the desert on ridiculously tiny and underpowered monkey bikes, to cross the Atlas Mountains and make it to the finish on the Atlantic coast.

If you haven't seen one before, a monkey bike is essentially a child's motorbike, made popular by the shriners, and has a massive 49 cc engine.

We will mainly be camping under the stars but due to weight limits on the bikes it will just be sleeping bags to keep the snakes and scorpions at bay.

I would love to say that this was an event into which I put a lot of thought but essentially we had too many beers one evening and signed up.  In the cold light of morn we remembered that neither of us had ridden a motor bike before..... so this really is a challenge!

Cool Earth is a hands-on charity focused on working with indigenous peoples to reforest areas of rainforest ravaged by clear cutting. It is the sponsored charity for the event.  See more at coolearth.org

Any donations would be very much appreciated.

Paul is collecting his donations separately!
